Historical Background and Features
The Michigan Theater, which opened in 1928, was originally designed as a combination of a vaudeville stage and a movie house. Over the years, it has undergone several renovations. Today, it offers three screening spaces for films and live concerts:
Main Auditorium
The Main Auditorium has a seating capacity of 1,600.
Screening Room
The Screening Room holds 200 seats.
Annex Cinema
The Annex Cinema is the most intimate space with 60 seats.
The theater is known for its year-round programming, with events taking place 365 days a year. Visitors often praise the theater for its nostalgic ambiance and well-curated list of films and live performances. However, some patrons feel the retro seating is less comfortable, especially for taller individuals, when compared to modern theater seating.
Admission and Ticket Information
General admission tickets for films are priced at $10.50 per person. However, there are discounts available:
- Students, veterans, senior citizens, and groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $8.50 each.
- Matinee showings from Monday to Friday (before 6 p.m.) are $7.50 per person.
Ticket prices for live events vary, and there is ample parking available in multiple nearby garages and on the streets close to the theater.
