Exploring the Asheville Urban Trail

Weaving through downtown, the 1.7-mile-long Asheville Urban Trail offers visitors a journey through the cultural and architectural history of the city. Public sculptures marking each of the trail's 30 stops communicate significant aspects of Asheville's past.

Historical Time Periods and Trail Route

The self-guided tour navigates five distinct time periods, ranging from the Gilded Age to the present Age of Diversity. The trail begins at Pack Square, located at the intersection of Biltmore Avenue and Patton Avenue, and loops around the downtown area. Visitors will return to Pack Square to see the final bronze statue. It's advisable to set aside two hours to complete the entire trail at once, but you can also explore it in sections over multiple visits.

Benefits and Visitor Experiences

Visitors report that both kids and adults in their groups appreciated the scavenger hunt format as an engaging method to explore the city. If you need a map of the trail or wish to listen to descriptions of each station, you can visit the Urban Trail’s website.
