Louisiana Art & Science Museum: A Historical and Educational Destination
Located in a historic railway station dating back to 1925, the Louisiana Art & Science Museum offers a mix of permanent and temporary exhibitions, along with a planetarium. Among its interactive galleries, you'll find the "Science Station," designed for kids ages 7 to 12. This section introduces elements of life science, earth science, physical science, and math through various engaging exhibits. One notable exhibit, "Calories in, Calories Out," educates visitors on the time and energy needed to burn off calories from different snacks. Additionally, the museum features a permanent exhibit dedicated to ancient Egypt, displaying a mummy from the Ptolemaic period.
Art and Artifacts Collection
Beyond its science-focused exhibits, the museum boasts a permanent collection of 4,000 artworks and artifacts. Items from this extensive collection are showcased in two small galleries at any given time. Visitors can expect to see American and European art—including works by Jean Victor Bertin and Charles Burchfield—as well as photography and Louisiana modern and contemporary art.
Visitor Experience
Family-Friendly Atmosphere
Previous visitors have noted that the museum provides a great activity for rainy days. Although the exhibits are primarily designed for younger audiences, some adults may not find enough content to engage with. However, many have praised the planetarium shows as a highlight of the visit.
