Overview of Boston’s Hands-On Museum
This hands-on museum offers an engaging and entertaining look at one of Boston's pivotal moments in history. Visitors have the opportunity to toss (fake) tea overboard, climb around replica ships, and converse with actors portraying Colonial-era individuals to learn about the issues of the time.
Exhibits and Attractions
Located on Griffin's Wharf, near the site of the actual Tea Party which occurred on Dec. 16, 1773, the museum features numerous interactive exhibits:
- 3D holograms
- Talking portraits
- The Robinson Tea Chest, an authentic tea chest from the Boston Tea Party
Two of the three ships, the Beaver and the Eleanor, have been faithfully recreated and are open for exploration. Additionally, the museum presents the film "Let It Begin Here," which depicts the events leading up to the American Revolution. For a relaxing break, visitors can enjoy tea or snacks in Abigail's Tea Room, which boasts one of the best views of the harbor.
Getting There
The museum is located near the Boston Children's Museum, in the Fort Point Channel area. The most convenient way to get there is by taking the Red Line on the "T;" South Station is just a short walk, less than three blocks away.
