Introduction to Shea's Performing Arts Center

If you want a taste of Broadway on your Buffalo vacation, look no further than Shea's Performing Arts Center. Opened in 1926 as "The Wonder Theatre" for silent films, Shea's is the sole surviving Tiffany-designed theater. Visitors can expect extravagant interiors typical of the Tiffany Studios style. The baroque, gilded interior features an elaborate ceiling design and crystal chandeliers reminiscent of a European opera house.

Several decades ago, community leaders saved the building from destruction by listing it on the National Historic Registry. Today, the theater is still being restored, but its interior remains magnificent. Visitors will see a sea of plush red seats surrounding an ornate stage and a richly colored ceiling.

Visitor Reviews

Show-goers have reported that the seats are comfortable and clean, with excellent views of the stage even from the back and balcony. Some reviewers mentioned that the volume can be too loud during Broadway productions, but most found the interior to be "stunning."

Tickets

Ticket prices and showtimes vary. If you don't have time to attend a show, you can still peek inside to admire the stunning interior from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays if there isn't a performance.

The center is located on Main Street in downtown Buffalo, accessible by car or Metro train.
