Introduction

Beyond its postcard-perfect views and art deco grandeur, the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden stands as a testament to the legacy of its benefactor, William Wrigley Jr. He purchased a controlling interest in the Santa Catalina Company in 1919 and set out to transform Catalina into a world-renowned resort destination.

Wrigley Memorial

Completed in 1934, the striking memorial features a circular tower reaching 80 feet high, adorned with colorful tiles and intricate details. Visitors can take their time to explore the site and enjoy the impressive views from the memorial.

Botanic Garden

Following Wrigley's death in 1932, his wife Ada conceived the idea of establishing a botanic garden to honor her husband's memory. The garden, which is situated below the memorial, was established a year later and continues to serve as a living tribute to Ada Wrigley's vision.

Plant Collection

The garden features a collection of plants native to California's Channel Islands, with a special emphasis on the six endemic plants that grow exclusively on Catalina Island. The network of trails winds through Avalon Canyon, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and the Pacific Ocean.

Visitor Experience

Many visitors appreciate the garden's tranquil and peaceful atmosphere, providing a welcome escape from the bustling town of Avalon. It is located 1.5 miles southwest of Avalon and is operated by the Catalina Island Conservancy. The garden is accessible via taxi, COAST, or a scenic hike via the Garden to Sky trail (a permit is required for hiking).

Tickets

Admission pricing is $10 for adults, seniors, and students; $7 for children aged 5 to 12; and free for kids 4 and younger, military personnel and their families, and veterans. Note that there is an additional charge for visits on weekends and during peak times such as holiday weeks.

Hours

The Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For the most up-to-date information, visitors should check the official website.
