Transformation of the Des Moines Sculpture Park

In 2009, John and Mary Pappajohn, a venture capitalist couple from Des Moines, made a significant contribution to the Des Moines Art Center. They provided funding and donated over 30 sculptures which transformed a collection of neglected buildings into the beautiful sculpture park we see today.

Highlighted Feature: Jaume Plensa's Nomade Sculpture

One of the park's standout features is the Nomade sculpture by Jaume Plensa. This 27-foot-tall hollow human form is composed of white steel letters, artfully arranged next to and atop one another, making it a breathtaking sight.

Visitor Experience

Past visitors have described the sculpture park as a must-see attraction when in Des Moines. Many recommend bringing a picnic to fully enjoy the experience among the stunning sculptures.

Location and Accessibility

The John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park is situated in downtown Des Moines. The park welcomes visitors from sunrise until midnight and entry is free. Additionally, free audio tours are available online for an enriched visit. For more details, check out the Des Moines Art Center website.
