The sunset from Belle Isle's aptly named Sunset Point, on the island's western edge, can't be beat. Bring a picnic and enjoy Detroit's best view. – Sarah Bence

Belle Isle, a 982-acre state park in the midst of the Detroit River, offers views of both the Detroit skyline and Windsor, Ontario. Known for its unique character, historic structures, and green spaces, it’s a must-visit location.

Things to Do

Visitors to Belle Isle have numerous attractions to choose from:

Belle Isle Aquarium

The oldest original aquarium in the country, this spot is a must-see for aquatic enthusiasts.

Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory

This conservatory offers a stunning collection of exotic and rare plants.

Other Attractions

Don't miss the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, Belle Isle Nature Center, and the James Scott Memorial Fountain. In the summer, kayaking around the island becomes a favorite pastime.

Described by recent visitors as a "breathtaking oasis" and "Detroit's greatest secret," Belle Isle is perfect for picnics, exploration, and relaxing. Despite the variety of activities, be mindful that the park can get crowded on summer weekend afternoons.
