Introduction

Since its opening in 1909, the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas has been a premier destination for residents and visitors, providing immersive experiences with wildlife from around the world. Animal Exhibits

From Humble Beginnings to Rich Diversity

When the zoo first opened, it housed a lion, two bear cubs, a coyote, a peacock, an alligator, and some rabbits. Today, visitors can enjoy exhibits showcasing a vast array of animals, from jaguars to flamingos.

Highlights of the Exhibits

One of the key features is the Australian Outback exhibit, where you can observe kangaroos and other Australian wildlife. The African Savanna exhibit is another standout, offering views of Southern black rhinos.

Museum of Living Art

Recent visitors highly recommend the Museum of Living Art, an award-winning facility within the zoo that houses approximately 5,700 birds, reptiles, and amphibians, all set against hand-painted murals.

The zoo is praised for its well-shaded pathways, which are lined with water misters to keep visitors cool during hot summer days. Additionally, you are allowed to bring your own food and beverages.

Texas Wild!

Among the popular attractions is Texas Wild!, a model Wild West village that includes a petting corral, a laser shooting gallery, and several snack options.

Other Attractions

Visitors can also enjoy a variety of other features within the zoo, such as a carousel, a 25-foot rock climbing wall, and a 14,000-square-foot splash area equipped with slides, a dump tower, and water cannons.

Getting There

Located in southwestern Fort Worth, the zoo is accessible by bus from downtown (take the No. 7), though walking from the bus stop to the zoo gates is required. Driving from the downtown area is recommended, with parking available for $5.

Hours and Admission Fees

The zoo's hours vary seasonally, but it generally operates from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Admission costs are $18 for adults and $14 for seniors and children aged 3 to 12. Children 2 and younger can enter for free. Note that certain attractions, such as the rock climbing wall and access to Safari Splash, may have additional costs.
