Since parking is hard to find beyond the visitor center's main parking lot, opt for one of the park's free shuttles and pack a bag with a water bottle, a hat, sunscreen, and a snack. – Catherine Parker

Where is Grand Canyon Village?

Grand Canyon Village is located close to the national park's most popular south entrance, on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

What to Do in Grand Canyon Village

Districts of Grand Canyon Village

Grand Canyon Village is divided into three districts: the Market Plaza, the main Visitor Center and parking lots, and the Historic District. The Historic District, originally the hub along the South Rim thanks to the arrival of steam-powered trains in 1901, is home to several historic buildings now serving dining and lodging purposes. Notable sites include Verkamp's Visitor Center, the El Tovar Hotel, and the family-friendly Bright Angel Lodge. Reservations for these iconic lodges should be made well in advance for those wishing to stay overnight in the park.

Activities for Day-Trippers

Day-trippers can easily spend half a day exploring the village's attractions. Key stops include the historic Grand Canyon Railway Depot, a log cabin-style working depot that still welcomes Grand Canyon Railway passengers. For authentic Native American souvenirs, visit the Hopi House, a 1905 adobe building designed by architect Mary Colter. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the historic Kolb and Lookout studios, both offering exceptional views of the canyon.

Visitor Amenities

Recent visitors particularly appreciated the convenience of Grand Canyon Village, highlighting its amenities such as gift shops, restaurants, markets, and the free Grand Canyon Shuttle stop.

Where to Eat in Grand Canyon Village

Inside Grand Canyon Village's hotels, you'll find various dining options. Bright Angel Lodge houses a steakhouse, a burger joint, a coffee shop, and a tavern. El Tovar offers a dining room, a lounge, and a food truck parked at the train depot.

Hours

Verkamp's Visitor Center typically opens between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, though hours may vary by season. The Village (Blue) free shuttle route includes several stops in the Historic District, starting from the main visitor center and parking lot. The Hikers' Express Shuttle also services this area.
