The Sandbox: A Fun-Filled Children's Museum in Hilton Head
If you’re traveling with young kids and need an activity for a rainy day, consider The Sandbox, Hilton Head’s children’s museum. The museum encourages imaginative play through events, exhibits, and daily and weekly programs, fostering physical, social, and cognitive development.
Interactive Exhibits
Exhibits at The Sandbox include an interactive Lego wall, kinetic sand tables, a pretend vet clinic, a miniature grocery store, a post office, and an airplane cockpit, among others. These exhibits are designed to engage young minds and provide a variety of play options.
Parental Feedback
Most parents agree this is a good place to go for an hour or two of fun, though they mention the exhibits are best suited for kids up to age 6. A common complaint is that the facilities are too small for busy days and in need of upgrades. Additionally, some rules are deemed overly strict and nonsensical. However, the activities are engaging and the time flies by, according to reviewers.
Location and Hours
The Sandbox is located less than a 10-minute walk north of Coligny Beach Park near the equally kid-friendly Lowcountry Celebration Park. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Sunday, it’s open from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Admission Details
Tickets cost $12 for all visitors ages 1 and older. Admission for seniors 65 and older is priced at $7.50. For more information, visit the official website.
