Explore History at Conner Prairie

Located northeast of Indianapolis in the suburb of Fishers, Conner Prairie is an 800-acre property that guides visitors through history with hands-on exhibits and demonstrations. Visitors can explore both indoor and outdoor areas, such as the 1836 Prairietown. Here, costumed interpreters demonstrate pre-Civil War Indiana life through activities like cooking, blacksmithing, and pottery making.

Experience the Lenape Indian Camp

The Lenape Indian Camp takes visitors back to 1816, the earliest period presented at Conner Prairie. Here, you can learn about the Lenape Indians' relationship with settlers and the impact of Indiana's statehood on the local economy and environment.

Visit the William Conner House

The property includes the William Conner house, the former home of a prominent politician and citizen. Children will especially enjoy seeing the farm animals at Conner Prairie.

Visitor Reviews

Some recent visitors compared Conner Prairie to Williamsburg, Virginia. Many were impressed by the historical knowledge they gained during their visit, highlighting it as an educational spot for children. One visitor noted that the traffic to Conner Prairie was more than they had anticipated.

Operating Seasons

Conner Prairie is located about 20 miles northeast of downtown Indianapolis. The outdoor interpretive areas run programs from April until October. During the winter months, the programming moves indoors. The modern indoor welcome center offers year-round learning activities geared towards children, including the River's Crossing play area, which is open during the winter.

Hours

From April through October, the facility is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November and December hours are variable due to special holiday programming but generally include Friday to Sunday visits. Winter hours (January through March) are Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tickets

Admission costs $23 for adults and $17 for children aged 2 to 12. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Conner Prairie website.
