Time to Spend: 2 hours to Half Day

Visit LACMA on a weekday morning for fewer crowds. Afterwards, head to the Original Farmers Market for a bite to eat. If you've parked at LACMA, there's no need to move the car: The market is an easy walk north (less than a mile). – Marisa Méndez

Introduction to LACMA

Next door to the La Brea Tar Pits, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) serves as the cornerstone of the Los Angeles museum district. Since its opening in 1965, LACMA has displayed thousands of pieces ranging from Islamic artifacts and European impressionist paintings to modern art. Thanks to its ever-changing exhibitions and unique architecture, LACMA provides an engaging experience for both dedicated art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.

Current and Future Exhibits

The museum is currently in the process of constructing a new building for its permanent collection, named the David Geffen Galleries, which is slated to open in 2026. For the time being, artwork can be viewed in the Broad Contemporary Art Museum and the Resnick Pavilion. Visitors should plan to spend two to three hours exploring both areas, depending on their interest in the accompanying informative text and the art itself. The Urban Light and Levitated Mass outdoor exhibits remain open as well.

Amenities

On-site facilities include a restaurant and a grab-and-go eatery. Additionally, there is a small gift shop in the Resnick Pavilion, where you can pick up mini mystery prints from a vending machine for an affordable memento.
