Introduction
Kama'ole Beach Parks, often referred to as "Kam" beaches, are three adjacent parks located in Kihei, Maui. Divided into Kama'ole I, II, and III, these beaches offer breathtaking views, soft golden sands, and crystal-clear waters that attract both locals and tourists. Kama'ole I is the largest, with a wide sandy beach perfect for sunbathing. Kama'ole II is slightly smaller but equally stunning and offers excellent snorkeling opportunities. Kama'ole III features a large grassy park ideal for picnics and gatherings, with a rocky point that provides an even better snorkeling experience.
Visiting Tips
Plan to visit early in the morning to secure a good spot and avoid the afternoon crowds. The beaches are ideal for family outings, swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing, so make sure to bring your snorkeling gear and plenty of sunscreen. For a more relaxed experience, Kama'ole III offers plenty of shaded areas and picnic tables where you can enjoy a meal with a view. Various nearby shops and restaurants make it convenient to grab snacks or lunch during your beach day.
Precautions
Always swim near the shore, and be mindful of the ocean currents which can sometimes be strong, especially in the winter months. Lifeguards are on duty, but it is essential to follow their warnings and posted signs. The sun in Hawaii is intense, so reapply sunscreen frequently. Watch out for occasional jellyfish, and keep an eye on your belongings to prevent theft. Parking can be limited, so consider arriving early or using nearby public transportation options.
