Introduction to Peabody Ducks

Located in the historic Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, the Peabody Ducks are a charming and unique tradition that dates back to the 1930s. Each day, a parade of five North American mallard ducks marches through the hotel's lobby to the tune of John Philip Sousa's "King Cotton March". This time-honored ritual takes place twice daily, at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., as the ducks make their way from their rooftop Royal Duck Palace to the lobby fountain and back.

Visiting Tips

If you want to get a good spot to view the duck march, it's recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes early, as the event draws quite a crowd. The best viewing spots are either right around the fountain or on the mezzanine level for a bird's eye view. After watching the duck parade, take some time to explore the beautiful and historic Peabody Hotel, known for its opulent decor and Southern charm. You can also enjoy a meal at the hotel’s restaurant or grab a drink at the lobby bar while soaking in the atmosphere.

Precautions

Please respect the ducks' space and avoid any sudden movements or loud noises that could startle them. Flash photography is not allowed during the march to ensure the ducks are not frightened. Keep a close eye on children to ensure they behave calmly around the ducks. Be mindful of the hotel guests and staff as you navigate the lobby, especially during busy times before and after the duck parade.
