Plan Ahead

Note: The performance space at Preservation Hall is limited. It is advised to arrive early as seating and standing spaces fill up quickly.

Background

The concept of Preservation Hall originated from the need to draw visitors to an art gallery called Associated Artists by incorporating jazz music performed by musicians from various backgrounds. Initially, this strategy succeeded in attracting visitors, though they primarily came for the jazz rather than the artwork. Eventually, the art exhibitions were phased out, and the focus shifted entirely to music. By the 1960s, the venue evolved into a prominent jazz establishment. Currently, Preservation Hall offers intimate jazz concerts on over 350 nights each year.

Venue Details

Situated in the French Quarter on Saint Peter Street, Preservation Hall provides guests with nightly 45-minute sets of traditional New Orleans live jazz. It is important to note that the venue lacks public restrooms and air conditioning.

Hours

Generally, there are four performances per evening starting at 5 p.m. On weekends, shows begin earlier, at 2:30 p.m.

Pricing

Ticket prices range from $25 to $50, depending on whether you prefer a seat or standing room. It is recommended to purchase tickets online in advance of the performance.
