Introduction
Part zoo, part botanical gardens, the Oklahoma City Zoo is a hit with travelers for its large size, manageable layout, and variety of exhibits.
Exhibits
Oklahoma Trails
The Oklahoma City Zoo boasts an exhibit unique to the area – Oklahoma Trails. This naturalistic habitat features over 100 different animal species native to Oklahoma (around 800 individual animals) and 11 unique life zones special to Oklahoma. Notable areas include the grassy Black Mesa and the rolling Ozark Highlands. Additionally, visitors can marvel at a 25-foot replica of Turner Falls found at Big Rivers.
Sanctuary Asia
Other highlights include the Sanctuary Asia exhibit, which is home to the Inasmuch Elephant Pavilion's herd of Asian elephants. Sanctuary Asia also features Indian rhinos, Komodo dragons, and red pandas.
Expedition Africa
In 2024, the zoo introduced its largest expansion – the 12-acre Expedition Africa exhibit. This new habitat showcases more than 60 animal species native to the African continent, including lions, giraffes, lemurs, hyenas, honey badgers, and flamingos.
Animal Encounters and Attractions
You can also spend a bit more for the zoo's many rides and animal encounters. These include giraffe, lorikeet, and rhino feedings, stingray touching experiences, and behind-the-scenes tours.
Visitor Feedback
Recent visitors were impressed with the size and scope of the zoo and recommended adding it to your OKC itinerary, especially if you have young kids. Many reviewers suggested allotting several hours to see all of the zoo's exhibits. The only complaint among travelers was the high cost of food at the on-site cafes. To save money, you can bring your own food and drinks into the zoo, and there are several water refilling stations throughout.
Location and Accessibility
The Oklahoma City Zoo is located northeast of downtown in the heart of the city's Adventure District at the crossroads of Interstate 44 and Interstate 35.
Hours of Operation
The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

General admission costs $20 for adults (ages 12 to 64) and $17 for seniors (65 and older) and children between the ages of 3 and 11. Fees for select zoo activities and rides, such as the carousel and daily giraffe feeding demonstrations, cost extra. Parking is free.
