The American Civil War Museum consists of three significant sites: The American Civil War Museum at Historic Tredegar and the White House of the Confederacy, both located in Richmond; and the Museum of the Confederacy at Appomattox, situated about 95 miles west of Richmond in Appomattox, Virginia. This museum is an essential visit for Civil War enthusiasts due to its extensive collection of Confederate artifacts, weapons, and art.

American Civil War Museum at Historic Tredegar

The Historic Tredegar site features a permanent exhibit titled "A People's Contest: Struggles for Nation and Freedom in Civil War America." This exhibit provides a chronological exploration of the Civil War from the perspectives of military leaders and civilians. Visitors frequently praise the multimedia presentation of the exhibit. Additionally, there is an exhibit dedicated to the United States Colored Troops, which narrates the story of the units that participated in the Battle of Forks Road. Another notable exhibit, "The Impending Crisis," educates visitors about the events leading up to the war and the causes of division among the populace.

The White House of the Confederacy

Located nearby Tredegar, the White House of the Confederacy was the residence of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The museum offers guided tours of the house that depart from the lobby several times daily. The Museum of the Confederacy at Appomattox

Visiting Hours

Tredegar and the Appomattox site are open for visits from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Guided tours of the White House of the Confederacy are available multiple times from Thursday to Tuesday.

Tickets and Pricing

Each museum site requires a separate entrance fee, but combo tickets are available. The combo tickets for both Tredegar and the White House of the Confederacy are priced at $28 for adults and $14 for children aged 6-18. Children aged 5 and under can enter for free. There are also discounts for seniors, teachers, veterans, and active military members. Individual site tickets and comprehensive combo tickets granting access to all three sites are also available.
