Overview of the Seattle Great Wheel
A Landmark Attraction
This massive, 175-foot-tall Seattle Great Wheel has become an iconic landmark in downtown Seattle since it opened in June 2012. Each ride in one of the 42 climate-controlled gondolas involves three full revolutions of the wheel, lasting up to 20 minutes. The ride offers unobstructed views over downtown Seattle, Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains, and, on clear days, Mount Rainier. Illuminated by over 500,000 LED lights, the Seattle Great Wheel features vibrant light shows every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from sundown to 10 p.m. during summer evenings.
A Family-Friendly Adventure
Recent visitors appreciate the ability for families to ride together in a single cabin, providing a more private setting than sharing with other travelers. They especially value the smooth ride, which ensures an enjoyable experience while capturing scenic photos over Puget Sound. Additionally, many guests recommend planning your visit around sunset for an even more picturesque experience.
Convenient Location
Located at the end of Pier 57 along the downtown Seattle waterfront, the Great Wheel is close to key attractions like Pike Place Market and the Seattle Art Museum, making it easily accessible via a short walk. The area offers several transportation options, including buses, ferries, and water taxis. The nearest light rail station is the University Street Station-Bay A, while the Westlake Centre Monorail station is about a 15-minute walk away.

The Great Wheel operates Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Ticket prices are as follows: $23 for adults (ages 12 and older), $21 for seniors (ages 65 and older), $18 for youths (ages 3 to 11), and free for children 2 and younger.
