Exploring the Boynton Canyon Trail

Introducing Boynton Canyon Trail

Key Highlight: Boynton Canyon Trail is one of Sedona's many amazing hikes.

Located just east of the Enchantment Resort, Boynton Canyon Trail is a moderate, 6.1-mile out-and-back trail. This route offers stunning green scenery, flanked by red canyon walls, and features a steady incline throughout. You should set aside roughly 2.5 hours to complete this hike.

The Vortex Experience

Boynton Canyon is renowned as a vortex site. These vortexes are believed to possess either masculine or feminine energies. Interestingly, the Boynton Canyon vortex is said to contain both, making it ideal for balancing energy. Known also as the Kachina Woman Vortex site, it holds significant spiritual importance for the Yavapai-Apache Nation as the birthplace of their spirituality and is one of Sedona's most sacred areas. You'll recognize the Kachina Woman by a tall spire visible early into the hike.

Tips for Visiting Boynton Canyon Trail

Getting There

The Boynton Canyon Trailhead is located about 10 minutes from West Sedona on Boynton Canyon Road. It features a paved parking lot equipped with a restroom. To secure a parking spot, plan to arrive early in the morning as the lot tends to fill quickly. Early arrival also ensures a more enjoyable hiking experience before temperatures rise later in the day.

Trail Etiquette and Requirements

Due to the trail's popularity, expect to encounter other hikers. Note that bicycles are not permitted, and dogs must be kept on a leash. Hikers are advised to wear footwear with good grip and traction. Also, it's crucial to bring plenty of water, especially during the summer months, to prevent dehydration. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen and wear a hat and sunglasses.

A Red Rock Pass is required to park at the trailhead, costing $5 per vehicle per day. Passes can be purchased on Recreation.gov.

For additional information, visit the U.S. Forest Service website.
