Experience the Wildlife at Turtle Beach

It's not only people who flock to Siesta Key. For generations, sea turtles have come to the island to lay their eggs on its beaches. Turtle Beach, aptly named for its sea turtle habitat, is one of those beaches.

Sea Turtle Nesting Season

During sea turtle nesting season, from May 1 through October 31, female sea turtles come onshore overnight to build their nests and lay their eggs. After about two months of incubation, baby sea turtles hatch and make their way to the Gulf of Mexico. If you're lucky enough to spot a mama sea turtle building her nest or see the babies hatch, remember to give them space: it's illegal to interact with the sea turtles in any way.

Recreational Activities at Turtle Beach

Even if you're not there for the turtles, Turtle Beach is a fantastic place to spend a few hours or even an entire day. The white sand is inviting, and the area offers multiple amenities, including picnic spots, a playground, and a fishing pier. You can also launch a canoe or kayak to explore the mangrove lagoon. Outdoor showers are available to wash off before heading to your next destination.

Accommodation and Amenities

Turtle Beach provides free parking and has a small campground with 39 RV and tent sites. From November through April, sites cost $65 per night, while from May to October, they are $56 per night.

Visitor Feedback

Recent visitors describe Turtle Beach as a nice, quieter alternative to other beaches on Siesta Key, with excellent shelling opportunities. Many also appreciate the accessibility provided by the free Siesta Island open-air trolley. The beach is located off Midnight Pass Road at the southern end of Siesta Key.
