Introduction to St. Augustine Beach
Situated about 5 miles southeast of St. Augustine's historic district, St. Augustine Beach features roughly 4 miles of white-sand coastline. The beach is popular with families, thanks to its kid-friendly splash pad. If fishing or a relaxing stroll is what you're after, visit the St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier, which sits at the north end of the beach.
Past visitors praised St. Augustine Beach's scenery and uncrowded atmosphere. Most days, the ocean offers small waves that are suitable for children, though some days bring larger waves ideal for surfing and bodyboarding.
How to Get to St. Augustine Beach
St. Augustine Beach is accessible by trolley, bus, or car. Bear in mind that this beach has limited complimentary street and lot parking, so arriving early is advisable if you plan to drive. Travelers with trolley passes can ride Old Town Trolley Tours' beach shuttle for free. Additionally, the city's Sunshine Bus Company stops near the south end of the beach at the Anastasia Publix.
Facilities and Access
The beach is free to visit, though a $2 fee applies to access the beach's pier. Amenities by the kids splash pad include restrooms, volleyball courts, a covered pavilion, and outdoor showers. The beach is open 24 hours a day. Driving and parking on the sands are permitted, but you must obtain a permit to do so. Note that driving on the beach is prohibited from 7:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. during sea turtle nesting season (May 1 to Oct. 31). Lifeguards are stationed at various points along the beach from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
