Introduction to the Missouri Botanical Garden

Spread across 79 acres and home to more than 4,800 trees, the Missouri Botanical Garden delights visitors with displays such as the Chinese Garden, the English Woodland Garden, and the 14-acre Japanese Garden – one of the largest in North America. The garden also honors Dr. George Washington Carver with a dedicated space. Carver, an African American and Missouri native, was considered a pioneer in 19th and 20th-century science, agriculture, and education. Among the garden's viburnums, hydrangeas, and holly trees, visitors will find a life-size bronze sculpture of Carver.

The New Visitor Center

Opened in August 2022, the new visitor center features an indoor conservatory showcasing Mediterranean plants, along with dining and shopping areas. One unique aspect of the Missouri Botanical Garden is its appeal to children. The seasonal Doris I. Schnuck Children's Garden offers attractions such as a limestone cave for exploration, the Spelunker's Slide for an exhilarating descent, a treehouse for climbing, and a steamboat to board. This children's garden is open from April to October.

Visiting Details

The Missouri Botanical Garden is located about 4 miles southwest of downtown St. Louis in the Tower Grove Park area. It is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are advised to wear comfortable shoes due to the garden's expansive area.

Admission and Fees

Admission costs $14 for adults; children aged 12 and younger enter for free. However, there is a special $5 admission fee for children aged 3 through 12 to enter the seasonal children's garden. Additionally, a tram tour is available for a $5 fee. All entrance fees grant access to the gardens and facilities, including two gift shops, a cafe, and a restaurant.

Getting There
