Introduction to the Court of the Patriarchs

The three distinct striated peaks in this rock formation are known as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Named by Methodist minister Dr. Frederick Vining Fischer during his visit to Zion Canyon in 1916, many of the features in Zion bear names inspired by religious figures.

Location and Viewing Options

The Court of the Patriarchs is situated about a third of the way up Zion Canyon. While it can be viewed from the road, there is also a 0.2-mile round-trip trail that provides travelers with a better vantage point.

Optimal Viewing Experience

To get the best views, it is recommended to take the short, steep hike to the designated viewpoint rather than simply admiring the Court of the Patriarchs from the shuttle stop. An interpretive sign at the viewpoint helps visitors identify the names of the peaks in the area.

Accessibility and Amenities

Visitors can exit the Zion Canyon Shuttle at stop No. 4/Court of the Patriarchs to reach this area. Note that this location does not offer restrooms or drinking water, though these facilities are available at stop No. 5/Zion Lodge. The shuttle service is free and does not require a reservation.
