Those with a love for gardening will find the North Carolina Arboretum a must-see attraction. Situated just 10 miles south of downtown Asheville, near Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 393, this 434-acre natural museum is nestled within Pisgah National Forest. Visitors can explore 65 acres of lush gardens, featuring a world-renowned bonsai collection and over 10 miles of trails suitable for hiking, biking, and walking. During the holiday season, the arboretum’s Winter Lights experience is a highlight, illuminating the gardens and grounds with over a million lights.

Recent visitors have praised the bonsai exhibition and the walking trails. Additionally, kids can participate in a variety of interactive activities, such as the ecoEXPLORER citizen science program and the TRACK Trail Guide.
Admission
While admission to the arboretum is free, there is a $20 parking fee per car.
Hours
The arboretum is open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the months of April through October. From November to March, the hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
