About Chattanooga Zoo
Through thrilling encounters with wildlife from around the world, the nonprofit Chattanooga Zoo aims to educate visitors about its wildlife rehabilitation work and inspire them to join its conservation efforts. The zoo houses more than 500 animals from over 150 species, including several endangered ones. Guests have the opportunity to observe a jaguar or chimpanzee, feed a towering giraffe, or meet a variety of reptiles. Keeper Chats are conducted throughout the day at different exhibits, where zookeepers offer 15-minute talks and answer questions about various animals. Kids can also explore the Nature Play area, featuring a jungle gym with a dig pit, tunnel, and climbable giant insects, or take a ride on the Zoo Choo Train ($5 per person) or the carousel ($3 per person).
Visitor Experiences
Recent visitors have noted that while the zoo is relatively small, it still offers plenty of engaging animals to see and activities to enjoy. The red panda was a favorite for many zoo-goers. Additionally, some visitors mentioned that arriving in the morning provides the chance to see animals being fed breakfast by zookeepers.
Location
The Chattanooga Zoo is situated approximately 2 miles east of downtown, in close proximity to the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Hours
The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day when it remains closed. The last entry is at 4:30 p.m.
