Introduction

An urban park located in the heart of downtown Houston, Discovery Green is a hub for everyone—ranging from downtown workers enjoying their lunches to visitors seeking a respite from the concrete jungle. Once an expanse of two large parking lots, Discovery Green now crams its 12 acres with a variety of amenities for both the young and the old.

The park also features a 1-acre lake that offers kayak rides, a jogging trail, two dog runs, two restaurants, two performance spaces, and multiple promenades.

Additionally, visitors can rent the unique Art Cart—a decorated golf cart with recreational items like bocce balls and croquet sets. This cart has been adorned by Houston Art Car artists. Various pieces of public art also embellish the green space. Discovery Green is a lively venue, hosting a variety of seasonal events ranging from exercise classes to markets, along with live performances.

How to Get to Discovery Green

Discovery Green is conveniently located in Houston's business district, just blocks away from major hotels and entertainment venues like the Toyota Center, the George R. Brown Convention Center, and the Marriott Marquis Houston. For those not driving, the park is easily walkable from downtown, and the METRORail Green and Purple lines service the Convention District stop.

Hours

Discovery Green is free to visit and operates from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. During summer, the hours extend until midnight. Parking is available nearby in garages, on streets, and in lots, although a fee is required.
