History and Overview
This 44-acre property dates back to 1786 when it was a private family-owned horticultural business. In 2001, it was founded as the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum.
Today, visitors can explore 17 display gardens, including the popular Secret Garden, inspired by the Frances Hodgson Burnett book. The garden also features walking trails and 2 miles of distinctive stone walls.
Visitor Experience
Recent travelers have described the garden as a tranquil and beautiful place to visit, with a knowledgeable staff. However, they noted that it may not be as meticulously maintained as some other botanical gardens. Some reviewers suggest that if you have to choose between this garden and the UT Gardens, you might prefer the UT Gardens instead.
Location
The garden is situated about 5 miles east of downtown Knoxville.
Hours and Admission
The arboretum is free to visit and open daily from sunrise to sunset. The visitor center operates from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
