Details
For the Growler submarine walk-through, children must be at least 40 inches tall and must be able to climb through the hatch unassisted for safety reasons. If your child is hesitant or clingy, you might consider skipping this part of the museum. Note that the staff is very supportive and patient if you'd like to try. – Elizabeth Von Tersch, Senior Editor
Explore the Intrepid Museum
If your children, or even if you're an enthusiast of sea, air, and spacecraft, the Intrepid Museum is a must-visit. Situated aboard a 1943 aircraft carrier in the Hudson River, this attraction in Hell's Kitchen will captivate transportation fans of all ages.
Growler Submarine
At the pier, you can explore the Growler, a nuclear missile submarine, and get insights into how the crew lived, dined, and navigated under the sea.
Concorde Tour
For an additional $13, visitors aged 5 and older can experience a 20-minute tour of the Concorde, a supersonic passenger jet. If you prefer not to spend extra, head directly to the flight deck to admire an impressive collection of military aircraft and see the Enterprise, a life-sized NASA space shuttle prototype.
Hangar Deck and Exploreum Hall
In the hangar deck, you will find various exhibits and artifacts. Here you can also visit the hands-on Exploreum Hall where your kids have the chance to climb into helicopters and space capsules, and interact with an array of buttons and controls.
