Located in La Jolla, less than 3 miles south of La Jolla Shores, the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial was established in 1954 to honor all U.S. veterans, living or deceased, from the Revolutionary War through to the present day. Featuring a massive cross and 11 walls adorned with over 3,500 granite plaques, the memorial pays tribute to individual military persons and their achievements. Volunteer docents are available to answer questions, and the memorial holds ceremonies every Friday morning to honor veterans, with special events occurring on holidays such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
