Stroll the boardwalk at Mission Beach
All Things To Do
Mission Beach Overview
Mission Beach – one of the top San Diego beaches – is popular with families thanks to its variety of amenities and laid-back vibe. It features an approximately 2-mile-long boardwalk and is home to Belmont Park, a beachfront amusement park known for its arcades and numerous rides, including the Giant Dipper wooden roller coaster, a nearly 100-year-old National Historic Landmark. Additionally, Mission Beach is a great spot for beginner surfers, with several surf schools offering lessons.
Dining and Picnic Options
When it's time for lunch, you can head to one of the many beachside eateries that line the boardwalk or Mission Boulevard, the area's main thoroughfare. Alternatively, enjoy a picnic at Bonita Cove, a bayfront park located across the street from Belmont Park. Bonita Cove also features a playground and several restrooms.
Family-Friendly Areas
For a more kid-friendly experience, consider basing yourself on the southern portion of Mission Beach. This quieter area, compared to the northern section where the amusement park is located, offers amenities such as beach volleyball courts, bathrooms, showers, and lifeguard stations.
Hours and Tickets
Mission Beach is free to access at any time of day. Due to its popularity with both tourists and locals, finding a parking space can be challenging, especially on weekends. Additional parking is available around Belmont Park, Santa Clara Point, and South Mission Beach Park.
