About Woodland Park Zoo
Founded in 1899, Woodland Park Zoo stretches across 92 acres and is home to more than 900 animals and 250 species, some of which are endangered. The zoo's exhibits include:
African Savanna
This area features lions, giraffes, hippos, and zebras.
Humboldt Penguins
Here, you can see penguins native to coastal Peru.
Tropical Asia
This exhibit includes orangutans, tigers, sloth bears, and various birds.
Seasonal Butterfly Garden
A seasonal exhibit showcasing a variety of butterflies.
In addition to its permanent exhibits, the zoo also hosts temporary exhibits. One notable past exhibit was "Dinosaur Discovery," which displayed more than 20 full-size dinosaur replicas, including a 40-foot-long T. Rex. The zoo also houses two western lowland gorilla families.
Recent visitors generally appreciated the zoo's size and the number of animals on display. However, some reviewers were disappointed to find certain animals were not viewable due to exhibits being unexpectedly closed.
Hours & Tickets
The zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. from May 1 through Labor Day, and from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the rest of the year. Entrance fees vary by day and range between $12 and $35. Children pay less than adults. Seattle CityPASS holders can opt to include the zoo in their pass for included admission. Note that some special exhibits may cost extra. The on-site rose garden, however, can be visited for free year-round.
Parking and Transportation
If you arrive by car, you can park in one of the zoo's lots for $8 to $12, depending on the length of your visit. The zoo is also accessible by bus; the No. 5 route drops you at the zoo's west entrance. Additionally, there is free covered parking for bicycles.
Ticket Purchases
Tickets can be purchased in advance through the zoo's website.
