Exploring Notable Arches Near Arches Scenic Drive
Sand Dune Arch
Visitors can easily reach two notable arches from the parking lot off of Arches Scenic Drive, located about 16 miles north of the visitor center. Start walking from the lot and you'll quickly see a fork in the trail leading you through narrow slot canyons to Sand Dune Arch. This unique arch is situated in a secluded area, and its base is filled with sand that has accumulated over the years. This natural sandbox is shaded, making it a perfect place to escape the heat if you're visiting during the summer months. The walk is less than a half-mile one way, so Sand Dune is easy to fit into your Arches itinerary and makes for a family-friendly excursion.
Broken Arch
If you're looking for a longer hike, head back to the main trail, and follow the signs for the 2-mile loop to Broken Arch. This arch is named for its skinny center which gives the illusion that it's broken. Visitors appreciated that the walk to Broken Arch is flat and relatively easy. They also said it's less crowded than other park attractions.
