Corona Arch: A Must-See Near Arches National Park

This visitor-favorite attraction isn't technically located within the bounds of Arches National Park, but it's close enough to include in your park trip itinerary. About 10 miles from the Arches National Park entrance, the journey to Corona Arch involves a moderate 3-mile roundtrip hike starting from the parking lot.

The Hike to Corona Arch

The trail to Corona Arch will take you across railroad tracks and through striking red rock walls. One highlight of the hike is a climb up a ladder built into the rock, leading to an expansive bowl-shaped area. You will also pass under Bowtie Arch, which resembles a window to the bright blue sky above. Finally, you will reach the grand Corona Arch, which is 140 feet wide and considered one of the area's best attractions.

Prime Viewing Times

At the base of Corona Arch, there's plenty of room to lounge and take in the breathtaking views of the canyon below. Visitors recommend arriving in the early morning or late afternoon for the best viewing experience. Fortunately, this arch is typically less crowded than those within Arches National Park, so you won't need to worry too much about the rush.

Driving Directions from Moab

If you're traveling to Corona Arch from downtown Moab, start by driving north on U.S. Highway 191 toward Potash Road (U.S. Highway 279); the drive is about 17 miles. A portion of the drive stretches alongside the Colorado River, offering a scenic trip. Best of all, since Corona Arch is not located within the national park, it's free to explore.
