Introduction to Le Musée de f.p.c.
Le Musée de f.p.c. (the Free People of Color Museum) has an enriched history situated in the Esplanade Ridge neighborhood of New Orleans. This area was once renowned as "Creole's Millionaire's Row." Before the Civil War, New Orleans was home to a substantial population of free people of color. This was largely due to the French and Spaniards allowing enslaved people to purchase their freedom, after which they would often settle in New Orleans. Afro-Creole free people of color owned the majority of properties along Esplanade.
Museum Mission and Tours
The museum is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of the free people of color in New Orleans. Tours are led by No Dream Deferred, a Black-led community theater company. Performers reenact the lives of actual historically free people of color who lived in New Orleans during Colonial times. Throughout the tour, visitors learn about the significant contributions of free people of color to the city's cuisine, architecture, and music.

Tours are available by appointment only on Fridays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 11 a.m. The price is $27.50 per person for regular tours, $150 per person for a private tour, and $100 per person for private tours with groups of over four people.
