Delicate Arch is arguably the world's most famous natural arch. The opening beneath the arch measures 46 feet in height and 32 feet in width, making it the largest free-standing arch in the park. Over the years, it has become the de facto symbol of the state of Utah.

Hiking to Delicate Arch

Trail Overview

If you'd like to see the arch up close, you can embark on a 3-mile round-trip trail. This trail climbs 480 feet uphill and passes notable features such as the Wolfe Ranch cabin and a wall of Ute Indian petroglyphs. The trail is not shaded, requires a steady climb, and includes traversing a narrow rock ledge for about 200 yards. The park categorizes this path as "difficult" and suggests that travelers assess their physical fitness before attempting the hike.

Visitor Recommendations

Visitors who have completed the trek highly recommend it, stating that it's worth every step. They also suggest bringing plenty of water. Similar to other attractions in the park, reviewers recommend arriving early in the morning to avoid crowds and the intense midday heat. Additionally, this area is very popular at sunset.

If you have limited time or prefer a less strenuous visit, there are other viewing options available:

Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint

You can visit the Lower Delicate Arch Viewpoint, which requires a walk of only 100 yards to see the arch from a mile away.

Upper Viewpoint

Another option is to go to the Upper Viewpoint. From there, a half-mile walk provides a slightly less obstructed view of the arch.
